Raise your mowing height

Grass in shade has fewer leaves to capture sunlight. Raising your mower deck by 0.25–0.5" increases surface area and helps the plant photosynthesize more efficiently. Taller blades also shade soil, reducing stress in thinner areas.

Thin the canopy & reduce traffic

Trim tree branches to let more light in and improve air circulation. Limit foot traffic in shaded zones, since compacted soil and wear weaken turf already struggling for energy.

Use lighter topdressing

If dips form under trees, topdress lightly with compost to improve soil structure. Avoid heavy fills that smother roots or raise grade around tree trunks.
