Annual Mower Tune-Up Checklist

Annual Mower Tune-Up Checklist

A yearly tune-up keeps your mower running smoothly, cuts cleaner, and extends its life. Here’s a simple checklist to get your machine ready for mowing season.

Engine & fuel system

Change the oil: Drain old oil and refill with manufacturer-recommended grade.
Replace air filter: Foam filters can be cleaned; paper filters should be swapped annually.
Fuel check: Use fresh gas. Add stabilizer if storing for winter.

Ignition & blade system

Spark plug: Replace once per year or after 100 hours. Gap it per specs.
Blade: Sharpen or replace. Balanced blades improve cut quality and reduce strain.

Deck & moving parts

Clean deck: Scrape built-up clippings to prevent rust and airflow issues.
Lubricate: Grease wheels, cables, and pivot points.
Check belts: Inspect for cracks or wear on self-propelled mowers.

Tip: Keep a small log of maintenance dates. Consistency prevents breakdowns mid-season.
