Why height matters
Cutting a little higher grows deeper roots, shades soil to retain moisture, and crowds out weeds. Lower “show” cuts can look crisp, but they require sharper blades, tighter intervals, and better nutrition.
- Hot/dry weather: raise the deck 0.25–0.5" to reduce stress.
- Shade: raise 0.25–0.5" and avoid removing more than 25% in a single mow.
- High traffic: stay mid-to-high in range and rotate patterns weekly.
